THIS DAM RUN IS NOT FOR US
The political arena is filling rapidly with would-be public servants, some of them actually qualified to fill the positions they are running for. This is not the only arena where more people qualify to run than should.
A case in point is an interstate event taking place this Saturday between Georgia and South Carolina. We are speaking about the twenty-sixth annual Hartwell Dam Run sponsored by the Hartwell Chamber of Commerce.
There will be three dam runs, a 1mile, 5K, and 10K. Like the Peachtree Road race in Atlanta, there will probably be some folks who sign up who have no business being in the dam thing. If, as happens in Peachtree, some of them pass out, have heart attacks, or develop leg cramps, it could be a dam catastrophe.
Furthermore, since the race covers two states, Georgia and South Carolina, and participants must pay a dam race qualifying fee, does this not constitute interstate commerce? If so, perhaps Congress needs to set up a dam race investigating committee.
We have nothing against the Hart Chamber’s dam run, nor would we say or do anything to discourage others from participating; however, we would like to know from their dam committee what they are going to do with all the dam money they raise. It will probably go to a good dam cause. Be a dam shame if it doesn’t.
Due to our age and infirmities, we are not qualified to run in this dam race.
Too bad more political aspirants didn’t make that same
decision this week about some other races..
